I looked up Jeff Kacirk, the author of this book, and for those looking for interesting books to read over this summer, his books seem to be a good choice. For example:

Informal English; Puncture Ladies, Egg Harbors, Mississippi Marbles, and other curious words and phrases of North America.

(FYI, a puncture lady was someone who preferred to wait out dances at the edge of the room, spreading gossip and “puncturing” people’s reputations.)

The Word Museum: The most remarkable English words ever forgotten
Forgotten English: a merry guide to antiquated words, packed with history, fun facts, literary excerpts, and antiquated drawings.
I don’t know about you, but this sounds like great fun. The last one is available used on Amazon for only $4.30!
