Russia’s Strategic Steam Resource


 

Although they will probably be junked soon, Russia still has 12 steam locomotives from the Soviet Union days. In case of a nuclear war, the country took precautions against the possibility of having no fuel for transportation.

The trains, having sat in a deserted yard near the city of Roslavl, are in terrible condition, with the non-rotten parts already having been scavenged by people.
