This Chinese Writer Invested in Plastic Surgery To Become Shakespeare

At 34, Zhang Yiyi didn’t just want to be a good writer; he wanted to be one. So in his quest for greatness, he spent his entire life savings on 10 plastic surgeries to look like William Shakespeare. These surgeries included eye reconstruction, nose surgery, a face tuck, and he grew his hair out.

While not well-known in elsewhere, Yiyi is actually a rather accomplished writer who, after a childhood of destitution, made a name for himself as one of China’s most successful writers. Of course, his surgery stunt has earned him even more publicity, with both negative and positive feedback. However,  Yiyi is happy with his investment, and says that “Life is a process of striving to become a better person. I think the surgeries are worth the money.”
