Franz Liszt’s La Companella is probably one of the most difficult pieces of piano repertoire to play, let alone master. Liszt’s hands were abnormally large and flexible, making it possible for him to make stretches that most struggle to reach, even at slow tempos. Valentina Lisitsa makes this piece looks effortless, even when playing it as an encore to cap a three hour long concert. (!!!)
To see the sheet music, here is another recording, not taken at Lisitsa’s impossible speed.
Happy Fourth of July!
