This 240 Year Old Boy Automata Is Arguably The First Computer


In the late 1770’s, this 6,000 part robot called The Writer, was created by Swiss watchmaker Pierre Jaquet-Droz with help from his son Henri-Louis. This programmable writing machine is nothing short of extraordinary, and was just one of many such machines that Jaquet-Droz made. Some consider it to be the oldest example of a computer, although some argue that the Antikythera mechanism should be considered the first. Regardless, this piece of genius is absolutely breathtaking.
