Foley: the process of creating sound effects for a movie. It was named after its inventor, Jack Donovan Foley, who began the craft in 1927. Today, the art has been refined to a special point, allowing all the sounds in today’s blockbuster movies to be dubbed over for the perfect sound quality and effect. One of the top Foley artists explains a little about his work in Gladiator and other movies, showing just how much work goes into these films behind the scenes.Sound effects are meant to invisibly blend into the movies you watch. If you don’t even notice they’re there, the Foley artist has succeeded.
