How and Why Cockroaches Clean Their Antennae

Cockroaches, flies, ants,…they all do it. They constantly groom themselves, even though they are considered to be very dirty creatures. (Hint: they actually are.) Why are the creatures such avid groomers if they are just as avid to crawl all over animal waste? Coby Schal, an entomologist at North Carolina State University, lends some insight as to why insects, cockroaches in particular, constantly “clean” themselves.
